Maybe after a bad break-up, or quitting a job you hated. However for the most part I've found that saying bye to someone or something you've become accustomed to, is usually very hard. Because it’s usually the ending of a season in your life, moving on, or up. Finality of some sense. You have to go through a mourning time for the person, place or thing you’re leaving.
I've recently had to go through a time of good byeing to all of my family and some very close friends to go to the other side of the world. I will be working with an organization called Youth with a Mission in Brisbane Australia. The campus here has helped us opened up a non profit coffee shop, and I, alongside a handful of other missionaries, will be bringing God’s love to the people of Brisbane through hospitality, communion with one another, and of course great food.
A couple of years ago I felt like I wasn't growing as much as I should have been in my faith. So I decided, after much prayer, that I would do the Discipleship Training School here in Brisbane. So I left my job, apartment, and life in Ottawa to pursue growing closer in my relationship with God. But before I even left, I asked God if He would put my love for cooking and my desire to serve Him in missions, together somehow. That would be my hearts desire. Little did I know the plans that He had for me.
God brought my friend Rae and I together, at first as roommates, and then as two souls with the same vision for a coffee shop that would connect and serve our local community here in Brisbane, and the global communities our ywam base supports with outreach teams. After a year and a half at home, reconnecting with people I love, working at an awesome doughnut shop, and preparing to come back to Brisbane, it’s hard to believe that I've been here for almost a month!
Throughout my time here, part of my job is managing the coffee shop (The Meeting Place); making improvements, decorating, and finding solutions to problems. The other part of my job is BAKING!! Which I love. Our menu changes monthly, and we have a new feature dessert every week. We also are so fortunate to have a local coffee roaster who provides us with free coffee. We are a donation based coffee house, so this is such a blessing to us.

As a missionary with Youth with a Mission I am required to raise my own funds to live and work. If you feel like giving a gift donation or want to start supporting me monthly, I would so appreciate your financial support. Go to my contact page for more info on where you can send your gifts.
Just as much as financial support, I need prayer support! It would be such a blessing to know I have a team of people praying for me, and our ministry. Some things you could be praying for now would be:
-Rae's quick visa approval, so she can get here and we can start moving forward with our ministry together.
-New customers everyday from the community
-That people would come to know the love of Christ when they walk into the Meeting place.
- That we could get the money/resources to do the needed renovations.
So I guess that good byes are necessary and inevitable in life. We will all have to say goodbye at some point. But I think that instead of that being the end of something, we should be looking at it like it's the start of something new. My dad always used to say on the first day of school after summer holidays, that "it's the first day of the rest of your life!". But isn't that everyday? Everyday we have a chance to start fresh. Be the person we know we want to be. The person God made us to be.
So what are you saying a good bye to today?
